Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. nach der Bestellung gedruckt Neuware - Printed after ordering - A dispirited small town in Georgia believes it lives under a curse that was conjured by the town s founding father during the Civil War. The people of Fair Haven do not share one another s joys. They do not comfort one another s pains. They barely relate to one another, but for clandestine, they huddle at the back of the night s quiet. They have never learned to rally around their own. Or have they They agree on one thing: there are monsters in the woods. An agent of US Fish and Wildlife, Causey Bentz, has set up camp in the neck of the woods before and seems to be as interested in the bigfoot on the mountain as the citizens are prepared to pretend it does not exist, for the last thing they intend to be is having backwoods fodder as a punch line for the world s unbelief in mysterious things. The local pastor uncovers a rich vein of civic pride and indiscreet support within tattered linking of folks and is pressed into service as an undersheriff. If the people will not attend Sunday services, the sanctuary will come to them. Father Chad, as they have come to call him, makes house calls. Polly Mankiller, the sheriff, attempts to balance the spiritual keel of the town that is seeing young folks drop off the rolls forever, for a scourge of poison in the form of recreational boredom s first casualty is killing them. A biblical reign of weather draws the world s focus on a town that only wanted to be left alone. In a time when people are increasingly alienated, what first appears to have been parts of a cosmic mockery shows increasingly to be blessings of a merciful god. Slowly the people come to recognize their need for one another. Mr. Blackburn, known affectionately as Blackie, is the unofficial mayor of the town and somewhat of an old-style fixer. He is one of the few men in the town to have grown up without a father and whose life dramatizes the fact that not all poverty is rooted in the lack of material things. Fair Haven depends on Blackie s masterful but understated grip on the town, but to whom will he lean as spiritual decay gnaws at him from the inside Is Bigfoot a descendant of Gigantopithecus blacki A relict hominoid A Heidelbergensis Will Blackie help to hold together a town that seems primed to implode under the weight of meteorological oddities and strange creatures at the edge of the woods Sometimes, it is enough to believe in those who believe.

Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. nach der Bestellung gedruckt Neuware - Printed after ordering - The Gradient Test: Another Likelihood-Based Test presents the latest on the gradient test, a large-sample test that was introduced in statistics literature by George R. Terrell in 2002. The test has been studied by several authors, is simply computed, and can be an interesting alternative to the classical large-sample tests, namely, the likelihood ratio (LR), Wald (W), and Rao score (S) tests. Due to the large literature about the LR, W and S tests, the gradient test is not frequently used to test hypothesis. The book covers topics on the local power of the gradient test, the Bartlett-corrected gradient statistic, the gradient statistic under model misspecification, and the robust gradient-type bounded-influence test.

The Liber Brunensis for 1870 was produced in December 1869. the initial Liber Brunensis was a pamphlet that included class lists and membership lists of the several organizations. Photographs of seniors was a feature added in the 1896 Liber. In 1895 the Liber included lists of female students in a section titled "Co-Education." In 1908 there were no women's pages and in 1909 the Women's College initiated its own yearbook, Brun Mael, which was published until 1970, after which the Liber Brunensis became the yearbook of the coeducational institution brought about by the merger of Brown and Pembroke. The Liber has continued to be published annually, except when prevented by wartime conditions in 1944. A combined 1944-1945 book was issued the following year. Brown University is a private Ivy League research university in Providence, Rhode Island. It is the seventh-oldest institution of higher education in the United States, founded in 1764 as the College in the English Colony of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations. One of nine colonial colleges chartered before the American Revolution, it was the first college in the United States to codify in its charter that admission and instruction of students was to be equal regardless of their religious affiliation. The university is home to the oldest applied mathematics program in the United States, the oldest engineering program in the Ivy League, and the third-oldest medical program in New England. It was one of the early doctoral-granting U.S. institutions in the late 19th century, adding masters and doctoral studies in 1887. In 1971, Brown's coordinate women's institution, Pembroke College, was fully merged into the university. As of March 2022, 11 Nobel Prize winners have been affiliated with Brown as alumni, faculty, or researchers, as well as 1 Fields Medalist, 7 National Humanities Medalists and 10 National Medal of Science laureates. Other notable alumni include 27 Pulitzer Prize winners, 1 U.S. Supreme Court Chief Justice, 4 U.S. Secretaries of State, over 100 members of the United States Congress, 58 Rhodes Scholars, 21 MacArthur Genius Fellows, and 38 Olympic medalists. The John Hay Library is the second oldest library on campus. Opened in 1910, the library is named for John Hay (class of 1858), private secretary to Abraham Lincoln and Secretary of State under William McKinley and Theodore Roosevelt. 105th edition [stated]. Presumed first printing.
