Hardcover. Condition: Poor. ] Hardback, tall 8vo, appx 6 1/2 x 9 1/2 inches , decoratively gilt and embossed brown-black cloth, 432 pages, Poor and As Is. Moderate to heavy edge wear. The front cover somehow is holding on. The RFEP is missing, and the back cover hangs by only the cloth. Book separated near the middle (gutter split at pages 192-193), but rear half held by a headband. Surface wear to the decoratively embossed boards not excessive and the decorated spine retains a bit of handsome appeal. There is a loose cord hanging out at the head of the spine, while no cord is present at the heel of the spine. Loss of a quarter inch of cloth at both spine-ends. The three remaining end-papers are yellow, the FFEP with a p.o.n. in script which might date to the era of the book's publication: "J.D. Wilson, Saint Paul, Min." What appears to be the half-title is mostly missing. Throughout the book can be found a few edge/corner problems, some (but not a great) amount of writing, foxing and soil, some missing tissues. Numerous engravings with one in color entitled "Landing of Americus on the Continent." There is a fold-out that is mostly missing that appears to have been a representation of the voyager's family tree. Author had been a U.S. Consul for 6 years to Genoa, and correspondence between him and a 19th Century Amerigo Vespucci is reproduced. Index at the rear, the last page of which is backed by nine reviews. RWR5 World History Voyages of Discovery.
