Book First Edition
Hardcover. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Good+. 1st Edition. 256pp., xiv. NAP. Introduction by Pearl S. Buck, pp. v-viii. Bibliography, pp. 241-244; Index, pp. 247-256. Prologue: : A Panorama of Chinese Political Thought, pp. 3-14; Part One: The Feudal Age [discussions of "feudal institutions and conventions", Confucius, Mencius, Hsuntzu, Laotzu,Yangtzu, Chuangtzu, Mocius ("utilitarian school"), Hantzu]; Part Two: The Monarchical Age [discussions of "monarchical institutions and conventions", Tung Chungshu, Pao Chingyen, Wang Anshih, Ch'en Liang, Huang Tsunghsi, Wang Fuchih ("philosopher of nationalism"), K'ang Yuwei ("the last of the Confucians"). Gray linen boards with bold red lettering on spine and front cover; thin line of superficial indent across ffep-last page of Table of Contents, lines up with juncture of inside front cover paste-down over cloth borders, ostensible imperfection in book manufacture rather than accident after possession: superficial impact on pages. Light gray-to age-toned-beige dustwrapper not price-clipped ($2.50) with red lettering for author, title, and excerpt from Buck Introduction, covering most of front cover. Edgewear: thin line of tattering across parts of top edges and spine ends of dw, with small, thin pieces missing at ends and at cover corners (imperfections now backed with archival tape); spine sun-darkened with red faded to a light tan, lettering still eminently readable; age-toning down right front and rear left edges, with some superficial surface peeling: describes worse than it is, but there you have it. Now in Brodart mylar which forgives these peccadilloes graciously. Book looks Unread (dw did its job): binding tight still; corners with hint of inward curls; no rubbing wear; no previous owner names. Clean text. Still a Solid Copy.
