This is a reprint of the original edition of 1699 and is superior to other reprints, having more plates and maps. This edition includes an excellent historical and introduction The maps include Darien, Caribbean, Isthmus of Darien from Dampier, and chart of San Blas Islands and adjoining coast. For the original edition, Hill p. 313: "This work contains one of the best accounts of the Isthmus of Panama, of its natural resources, and of the native Indians". Cox II, 247: "This work contains the best account that has yet been given, of the Isthmus of Panama, of the Indians there, and of the natural products, and contains many interesting items".
