Famous Texan, pro at Tam O'Shanter CC, US Open winner 1946 defeating Nelson and Ghezzi in the SECOND playoff round, leading money winner 1948, four-time Ryder Cup player and two-time Ryder Cup Captain. No saint, with flashy drerss and a reputaion for gambling, Mangrum played the 1951 St. Paul Open under police protection after an anonymous death threat. Mangrum won the tournament anyway. Served under General Patton in WWII and was awarded two Purple Hearts. The original, Mangrum was the first pro golfer to fly his own plane to touraments. Rather uncommon in decent condition, this copy with light wear to covers, rear creased, contents very good condition, no marks, soiling etc. with the exception of a boy's camp stamp on title page. Covers protected by mylar. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
