Textured boards show only a touch of wear; pages clean with some light foxing to opening pages and a few interior pages, with a (mysterious) 'withdrawn' stamp on inside rear cover. Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: No Dustjacket. First Edition. Some light fraying to lower corner tips and bottom of spine; else about Very good+ condition. 149 pages; Illustrated with Black and White Plates by Cleanthe Carr. Called Long's second autobiography and published posthumously in 1935, it emphatically laid out his presidential ambitions for the election of 1936, using imaginary conversations to outline the policies he would pursue if he were to win the presidency. Huey Pierce Long Jr. (1893 ? 1935), nicknamed The Kingfish, was an American politician who served as the 40th governor of Louisiana from 1928 to 1932 and as a United States senator from 1932 until his assassination in 1935. He was a left-wing populist member of the Democratic Party and rose to national prominence during the Great Depression for his vocal criticism of President Franklin D. Roosevelt and his New Deal, which Long deemed insufficiently radical. As the political leader of Louisiana, he commanded wide networks of supporters and often took forceful action. A controversial figure, Long is celebrated as a populist champion of the poor or, conversely, denounced as a fascistic demagogue.

Book First Edition
Hardcover. Condition: Very Good+. No Jacket. 1st Edition. First Edition, First Printing of one of the most intriguing political books of the Great Depression and New Deal era. During 1935, charismatic Louisiana populist Sen. Huey Long broadly hinted at a 1936 run for president and produced this book as a vision of a White House that advanced his "Share the Wealth" philosophy. Long's ability to animate and harness opposition to New Dealers made President Franklin Roosevelt and his political team quite uneasy. And the authoritarian tendencies that Long demonstrated in Louisiana made some observers very uneasy. However, in September 1935 Long was assassinated. And when this book was published it was a coda to Long's colorful career, and not an element of a third party challenge to FDR. 146 pages, red cloth, illustrated. Has a bit of tanning of page edges and light edge wear. Minimal sign of previous use.
