Original price sticker residue on bottom corner of front cover. Light overall scuffing, aging and soiling to covers as well. Binding tight. (staple bound). Bookstore stamp on top of publisher' stamp at bottom of title page. Otherwise pages are lightly aged but unmarked. NOT Ex-Library. NO remainder marks. Nice b&w photos reproductions throughput.

Faultless interior. Map. Every page is illustrated with black and white photographs accompanied by appropriate descriptive text. The historic phhotographs show not only the places but the faces fo the Mother Lode. It was after the first rush of goldseekers came and laid bare the hills and rivers of the state that the true golden promise of California was discovered in these men and women who stayed and created a great state from what almost a wilderness. This is their story. Covers 1849 thru the 1890s.

The yellow paper wrappers are in very good condition though there is some sunning to the spine and just a touch of handling wear around the edges. The interior text is in very good condition or better with the paper possibly showing some browning with age but the text and numerous photographs are clear and undiminished by more than 50 years since publication. A nice little item providing valuable information and insight into the gold rush era. 30 pages.
