Illustrated with 20 black and white wood engravings plus one on the title page by Harold J. Matthews. Yellow cloth with embossed blue letters on the front cover and the spine. No noticeable wear to extremities, cloth clean and bright, gift inscription, previous owner's bookplate to front pastedown [Alan E. Wicks], else fine with no internal markings. Dust jacket ever so lightly soiled but not price-clipped. Born in Rice Lake, Wisconsin, Paul South worth Bliss [1889-1940] later lived in Marshfield, Wisconsin, St. Paul and Minneapolis, Minnesota and St. Louis, Missouri. He was educated at Hamline College in St. Paul and Harvard University (1913). He worked as a journalist on several newspapers and as a social worker. During WWI he served over-seas as a Major in the US Army. After the war Bliss became associated with the Works Progress Administration of North Dakota. CIRRUS FROM THE WEST is his seventh published book of poems and continues his interest in poetry inspired by nature. Each poem has a printed date attached, as well as a brief description of the circumstances in which it was written. Born in Waco, Texas, Harold J. Matthews was educated in Baylor University and the University of Kansas (1922). Most of his career was spent in social work of various types. His hobby has always been pictures and he has illustrated several other books, as well as magazine articles. The engravings in this book are superb. Signed by Author(s).
