Slight bowing to boards. Previous owner's name sticker at head of ffep. Else internally remarkably bright and clean. Early signs of starting at frontispiece, remaining entirely secure. Illustrated with monochrome plates, maps. Monochrome portrait frontispiece of Hernando Cortés (from the famous oil painting. Although the copyright page states "Printed in Mexico by special permission of George Routledge & Sons, Ltd. London," this edition appears to be on British sheets from Stephen Austin & Sons (Hertford), and bound and distributed in Mexico.
