Hardcover. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Fine. 1st Edition. This Fine condition first edition copy is wrapped in a Fine condition dustjacket with $3.75 price intact on front flap. This is a wonderful biography of Twain for children ages 9 to 14, told through vignettes that describe Twain's works. But the true key to this book's greatness is the array of illustrations by Lynd Ward, which give breadth and depth to the text, and hopefully will encourage young readers to seek out Twain's works in full. Ward was the artist whose 1930s books--including God's Man and Madman's Drum--were universal lauded for their brilliant woodcuts without words (novels without words). This volume is very different from Ward's early works; includes full-color plates, as well as many black ad white illustrations. Where have all the woodcuts gone?.

A very good copy in a very good dust jacket. The jacket has a one-inch snag at the top edge and minor loss to the spine. This copy is inscribed by McNeer and signed by both McNeer and Ward with their first names, suggesting that this was signed for people close to them.
