Hardcover. Condition: As New. Dust Jacket Condition: as new. First Edition Thus. 8vo, pages, cloth Here are Merton's personal reflections. written from the distance of tme, and for a whole new readership, and furthe thoughts into the author's mind and heart as he reconsidered and felt again the great themes in his books. Principally, these remarks have been gathered from Merton's new prefaces to foreign language editions of his work. Most of this was previously published in 1981 as INTRODUCTIONS EAST & WEST; but this adds 3 newly discovered works, an updated bibliography, and, charmingly, a facsimile of the graph Merton made rating his various books.

Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Limited Edition. 53pp. Octavo [23cm]. Quarterbound in black cloth over light pink boards. Cover bears illustration of Number 1, Rue du 4 Septembre, Prades, France (the birthplace of Thomas Merton). Handcrafted paper with deckled edges. Paper title label on spine. Foot of spine gently bumped. Hand-numbered 48/100 on the limitation page. Founded in 1953, Anvil Press initially functioned as an association comprised of 10 printers - among them Victor and Carolyn Reading Hammer. The literary Lexington duo was heavily involved in the Kentucky book arts scene. Carolyn also founded Bur Press and King Library Press. She ultimately bought out the other members of Anvil Press and, after 1978, the press was used exclusively for her own projects. Victor and Carolyn maintained a lengthy friendship and correspondence with Thomas Merton, also printing his "Early Poems 1940-42" and "The Solitary Life" under the Anvil Press. This title appears to be the final publication of Anvil Press. Scarce.
