Book
Hardcover. Condition: Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Fair. 2nd Edition. Children's Book Club edition, 1959, published by arrangement with Cassell. Novel for children with car racing theme, written by former racing driver John Michael (Mike) Hawthorn, the UK's first Formula One World Champion. Hawthorn retired in 1958 and died shortly after in a road accident. This novel was thus published posthumously, the copyright being held by his mother. 169 pages printed and bound on green boards. Pages are fox-marked on the ends and there are occasional fox-marks throughout. (There is a 'blotch' fox-mark to the bottom of page 1). Otherwise, the book is in Good condition - clean, tidy and tightly bound. B. & w. illustrations by J. E. McConnell. With non-clipped, illustrated colour jacket in Fair condition - fox-marks to inner and outer. Two tears with cellotape repairs and the rear outer of the jacket also bears 3 ticks in red pen (probably by a former child reader enthusiastically ticking off his or her collection). 8vo.
