    Bust-length portrait of Jean-Antoine Nollet. Jean-Antoine Nollet (1700-1770) was a French clergyman and deacon in the Catholic Church. As a physicist he did a number of experiments with electricity and discovered osmosis. Etching and engraving on hand laid paper, sheet size 307 x 237 mm., platemark 264 x 187 mm. Engraved by Pascual Pedro Molés after Maurice-Quentin de la Tour, published in 1771. Pasqual Pere Moles i Coronas, also known as Pedro Pascual Moles (Valencia 1741-1797 Barcelona) was a Spanish engraver who served as the first Director of the Escola de la Llotja until his death. Maurice Quentin de La Tour (1704-1788) was a French portrait painter who worked primarily with pastels in the Rococo style. Among his most famous subjects were Voltaire, Rousseau, Louis XV and the Madame de Pompadour. In very good condition. Right margin with a sharp fold and binding holes. Margins in general a little soiled and discoloured. The image area unaffected.
