First Edition
239p, 1/4 cloth-backed boards, front board has emblem of the LaFayette Flying Corps blind stamped, illustrated by photos and portraits, torn glassene dust jacket and worn slipcase, a few light spots on top page edges, very good+. Privately printed and distributed. First edition. Noffsinger 1054. Moseley was an all American end on Yale's undefeated football team of 1916 (one tie). Along with many other Yale students Moseley wanted to fly in WW I. These letters show his determination to become an aviator as well as the frustrations he encountered en route. A very interesting book which gives an excellent description of the very thorough instruction given aviation trainees by the French and Moseley's adventures as he sought combat. Smith. WORLD WAR I IN THE AIR 1274: "The Author enlisted in the Lafayette Escadrille in July 1917, transferred to U.S. Naval Aviation in February 1918 and served at Dunkirk from March-June 1918. He then flew with No. 218 Squadron, RAF, until September 1918 when he transferred back to fight with the French Escadrille de Saint-Pol from October 1918 to the Armistice. He was apparently in transit too often to become an ace!" Details of Moseley's career are found in Vol. II of Hall and Nordhoff's LAFAYETTE FLYING CORPS.
