Book First Edition Signed
Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. 1st Edition. Gray cloth on boards with dark titling to front and spine. Book is tight, square, relatively sharp-cornered and free of major flaws and markings, inside and out, other than some minor browing to endpapers and text block edges. Includes sections on: History of Mount Desert, Southwest Harbor, Somesville, Cranberry Isles, and Song and Story. Filled with stories and information, this is an incredible resource for anyone interested in Mount Desert Island or Maine in general. Very Rare - this is the First Edition and only printing, before the fasc. edition of 2011. Even more uncommon, the author signed this copy on the title page, Nellie C. Thornton. Book purchased at the Dreier / Kellor summer home in Southwest Harbor, Maine on Fernald Point. Laid-in are several pieces of information hand-typed about the "Captains' Cottage" on Fernald Point and the history of that area and the settlers of that area. Mary Dreier and her partner Frances Kellor lived for many summers at the house and were very active social reformers as well and this book came from their library. Signed by Author(s).
