The California representative and senator went on to serve as Dwight Eisenhower's vice president (1953-61) and was then elected thirty-seventh president of the United States, a controversial tenure ending in the only presidential resignation in American history. Original Drawing Signed, 1p, 8½" X 11", n.p., n.d. [circa 1960]. Very good. Faintly age toned and even more faintly edgeworn, with three small marks down left margin (not affecting holograph portion or likeness). Boldly pencilled head-and-shoulders portrait by an unidentified amateur artist, boldly inscribed and signed in black ink at lower left: "To Donald Burnell / with best wishes / from / Richard Nixon." Attractive and most unusual in this form -- signed right around the period of his disastrous debates with presidential contender Kennedy.
