Faint franking postmark in red ink. Laid out in Palmerston s neat and stylish hand in the customary way, and reading: London February Twenty 1826 / Peter Legh Esqr. Junr / Haydock Lodge / Warrington , with the signature Palmerston at bottom left. See image.

This popular and influential English statesman served often as foreign minister and twice (1855-58, 1859-65) as prime minister; he is mainly remembered for ending the Crimean War. Free-Franked Envelope, a signed envelope front panel, 4 3/4" X 3", Sligo, Ireland, 1824 September 6. Barely visible red postal inkstamp. Very good. Boldly addressed in Palmerston's handsome hand to Lady Gore Booth at Lissadeil, Sligo. Signed with his usual "Palmerston" at lower left. Very attractive. Palmerston was secretary for war at this time.

4to, 1 p. Nine lines. Text clear and complete. On bifolium of paper watermarked 'J WHATMAN | 1855'. Aged and lightly-stained. Reads 'I have the Honor to inform you that Parliament having been called to meet on Thursday the 3d of December Business of great Importance will then immediately be brought forward, and I trust that it may be consistent with your Convenience to attend in your Place in the House of Commons on that Day'. From the papers of James Wyld (1812-1887), cartographer and Member of Parliament for Bodmin.
Manuscript. Condition: Good. 3rd person one and a quarter page AL, Foreign Office, Oct. 14th, 1831 to Lord Melbourne (another future PM) asking him to take instructions from the king (William 1V) re. the admission of the carriages of the Grand Duchess Helen of Russia to St James' Park. Docketed on obverse of conjugate leaf, and a note added in a 3rd hand. This page has extensive traces along l.h and r.h. edges, of formerly attached card where taken from an album.
Manuscript. Condition: Good. One page AL in 3rd person, Jan. 24th, 1841, to captain Smith setting up an appointment to see him. Laid down on card. WITH . One page ALs, Dec. 10th, 1860, Piccadilly, to F. Taylor thanking him for his reports 'which are quite satisfactory'. The wax seal cut from the envelope has been attached, to obverse of which is attached Sir Robert Peel's signature complete on a small piece. WITH . One page signed notification, Feb. 6th, 1860, declaring the Rt. Hon. Wm. Cowper and Mr. Hutt to be Presidents of Board of Works, and of Trade, respectively 'have taken the Queens Pleasure'. Slightly frayed at corners (where taken from an album), and small amount of staining.
