At its peak, there were 20 producing gold mines in and around Red Lake, Ontario. By 1995, there were only two. Parrott, who lived and worked in those mines for most of his life, has developed a history of them, exploring how Red Lake was named, its early relationship to the fur trade, the discovery of gold in 1897 and silver in 1922, and the ups and downs of a gold rush.
