Volume I rather edgeworn and corner bumped, though especially clean, bright and tight-hinged internally; 1885 ownership signature on front flyleaf. Volume II edgeworn, rather rubbed and corner bumped. First edition of the first two volumes (only) of this standard 5-volume set. Volume I contributors include such notables as Abraham Jacobi, James Law, Henry Hawthorne, John S. Billings, James Nevins Hyde, James C. Wilson and others, while Volume II contributors include W.H. Welch, J. Solis Cohen, W.W. Johnston, James T. Whittaker and others. Despite wear, a decent and quite useable pair.
