Without binding., ?All the greatest artists and engravers of the time were involved in the illustration of this lavish project which, according to Segur, cost 194,436 French francs. Because the work was not published until after the fall of Napoléon, almost all [copies were] immediately sequestrated. Some copies were?given to the artists and members of the Imperial government, while other copies were obtained privately and at great expense before the edition was later released onto the open market?.Jean-Baptiste Isabey (1767 ? 1855) was a French painter born at Nancy. His portrait Napoleon at Malmaison (1802) is considered one of the best likenesses of the emperor.Charles Percier (1764 ? 1838) was a French architect, interior decorator and designer who worked alongside another French architect, Pierre-François-Léonard Fontaine (1762 ? 1853). Their partnership was so close that it is difficult to distinguish their work from one another., Size : Large Folio (675x 490 mm), Engravers: Jean-Francois Ribault; Massard; Petit; Lavale; J. B. Simonet.A very good example of this rare collection of loose plates depicting Napoléon Bonaparte?s coronation. Showing double-page scenes of the coronation, of these 11 plates are of costumes worn by important figures in attendance, including the Pope, cardinals, colonel generals, the master of ceremonies, and others. All plates beautifully hand coloured, with the title of each personage depicted written beneath in gilt paint inside decorated frames; some frames elaborately illustrated with various figural motifs relating to national and royal symbols of status and power. With mark of the Chalcographie du Louvre, Musee Nationaux blindstamped on each plate., References : Barber, t. IV, col. 401; Chiswick Auctions, Lot 1590; Grasse, t. VII, p. 209; Monglond, t.
