First Edition
Cloth. Condition: Very Good. None (illustrator). First edition. In this very scarce guide, Reginald Winslow clarifies the rules and rights of contemporary Nonconformists A very scarce copy of Reginald Winslow's handbook for nonconformists, previously owned by Liberal Party politician Henry Wilson. In this volume, Winslow has gathered the statutes and decisions affecting contemporary Nonconformists. Nonconformists were those who did not follow the Anglican Church, and by the late 19th century, the term included Reformed Christians, Baptists, Methodists, and Quakers. By law and custom, nonconformists were restricted from many spheres of public life, and this compilation is designed to clarify the rules and rights of Nonconformists. Prior owner's ink inscription to half title, 'Henry J. Wilson'. Wilson was a British farmer, industrialist, and Liberal Party politician for Holmfirth in 1885. Institutional stamp from the British Library of Political Science to the half title and the title page. Library index card tucked in. Publisher's adverts to the front and rear pastedowns. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, generally smart. Rubbed to the boards and spine. The cloth has discoloured at the spine, and is a little discoloured towards the edges of the boards. Bumped to the head and tail of the spine, with a couple of small closed tears in the cloth to both. Internally, firmly bound with bright and clean pages. Very Good. book.
