This is the Fourth Thousand Edition, published by James Nisbet & Co., London, 1885. 8vo, 18.6 cm x 13.2 cm x 2.6 cm, Red cloth-covered bevelled boards, Gilt & black embossed lettering & decoration on spine & front cover, Small clear embossed motif on back cover, All edges gilt, no dust-jacket. 213 pages. Weight: 488 Grams. CONTENTS ARE LIKE NEW!!! However, there are several cracks between pages throughout, including between pastedowns & endpapers at front & rear of book. Spine is clean, discoloured for the most part, bumped & frayed either end, gilt & decoration quite bright but slightly worn away in places. Cover is slightly marked mostly round edges, gilt and decoration very nice & bright, some discolouration on back cover, edge wear. Corners are scuffed and slightly bumped. Outer edges slightly scratched, gilt quite bright still. Writing indents on 1st endpaper. Light age tanning & very rare foxing throughout, more pronounced on pastedowns & endpapers. Last pastedown & endpaper are creased, with small stains on bottom edge showing through to last few pages of catalogue at rear of book. VERY RARE 19TH CENTURY BOOK, EXCELLENT CONDITION INSIDE!!!
