Text by naturalist Houghton. Brown cloth with gilt spine printing and light orange boards with gilt framed printing and illustration of a fisherman holding a fish in a stream. Dust jacket has faded spine along with wear, peeling and curling alond top edges. Book has small spot on cover and narrow faded strip along top edge. Green binding, light decorative coach-lining to edges, gilt titles to spine, no publisher's name to spine so could be original binding or a rebind, looks of the correct period. A few pencil annotations to margins & small underlinings to text which is otherwise unimpeded. Private individual's library stamp embossed to flyleaf, in name stamped twice with address to inner front board, no other markings. Slight surface marks, one small ink stain to bottom front with slight diagonal creasing to cloth across top front with light creasing to inner front board, slight surface scratches to bottom rear, some wear with small creasing to spine-ends, slight small fray to bottom rear hinge, wear to corenrs which are just rubbed through to card at extremities on 3 of them & slight knocked, light bump to opening edges, very light wear to edges. Browning to end-papers, slight brown blotching to title & index pages. A few slight blotches to some pages & some plates within text which has one or two light finger marks, general condition quite clean. Excellent b/w drawings & b/w plates with a thin red line border. A most attractive old volume.
