Bibliography From an obituary of the author posted on-line: "Joseph Anthony Rinaldo, Jr., M.D., died on January 29, 2010, at the age of 84, in San Diego, California. The eldest son of Alvina Uva and Joseph Anthony Rinaldo, Dr. Rinaldo was born in Chelsea, Massachusetts, October 6, 1925, and grew up in the historic towns of Revere and Concord, Massachusetts. He enrolled in Harvard College before serving in the U.S. Infantry in World War II. Sergeant Rinaldo was honorably discharged with a Silver Star on April 24, 1946. After returning to the States, he graduated with the Harvard College class of 1946. He continued his education at Harvard, graduating from Harvard University Medical School in 1952. Beginning in 1955, Dr. Rinaldo specialized in gastroenterology in Detroit at Henry Ford Hospital, Mt. Carmel Mercy Hospital and later at Providence Hospital, where he also served as Medical Director from 1970 to 1990. He earned a Master of Engineering degree at the University of Detroit and was active in the development of the University s Bioengineering Section. His numerous research activities resulted in the publication of over fifty papers on subjects ranging from computer diagnosis to malabsorption, but he was best known for his groundbreaking work in esophageal motility. He was active in the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy from 1969 to 1980, serving as president in 1974. A champion of medical education, Dr. Rinaldo was a founding member and president of the Southeast Michigan Center for Medical Education, an organization that worked towards the establishment of the recently inaugurated Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine. Dr. Rinaldo and his wife, Rosemarie, moved to San Diego, California in 1990, where, as a Clinical Professor of Medicine, he oversaw the nascent Gastrointestinal Motility Laboratory at the University of California San Diego School of Medicine. Dr. Rinaldo is the author of Metronome, A Life in Poetry and My Lucky War, A Memoir." Good. Cover has some wear and soiling.
