Elegante frontis in doppia cornice decorata, ripetuto ai tre libri che hanno numerazione continua. Pregiata edizione stampata su carta leggermente azzurrata. Secondo GAMBA: " La edizione più intera è forse quella di Nizza 1782 ". Questi componimenti contengono le elegie, odi, sonetti, canzonette ed endecasillabi. L' autore (1687-1764) romano, viaggiò e stampò all' estero varie sue operette sin dal 1717. Per notizie biografiche vedi: D' ANCONA e BACCI "MANUALE DI LETTERATURA.[f15] ITALIANA" 1901-10 vol. IV 124 e VI 483. Esemplare molto bello, nitido e freschissimo. GAMBA 2421 in nota.

Paolo Rolli (1687-1765), Erzieher der Söhne von Georg II aus England und Mitglied des Italian Circle in London, verfasste Libretti für Porpora, Bononcini und auch für Händel (Muzio Scevola, Floridante, Scipione, Alessandro und Riccardo I), zu dem er aber keine gute Beziehung hatte. Dies belegen sein Briefwechsel mit dem Sänger Selesino und kritische Artikel über Händels Werke in der London News. Als Lyriker prägte er im Wesentlichen die Entwicklung der arkadischen Dichtung in Richtung Rococo durch eine sensuelle Schmückung des poetischen Objekts. Gewicht in Gramm: 750.

Condition: Buono (Good). 0. Manoscritto cartaceo (mm. 200x145). Carte 76 + 16 numerate anticamente a penna; precedono 2 carte non numerate. Una gora al margine superiore delle ultime carte. Legatura coeva in cartonato con dorso in pergamena. Lavori di tarlo ad entrambi i piatti. Le "Rime" sono state edite anche in Italia nel 1761. Le 16 carte che seguono comprendono: "Canzonette del Rolli venute d'Inghilterra ultimamente". Il Rolli, nato a Roma nel 1687, ebbe come maestro il Gravina e fu compagno ed emulo del Metastasio; fece pratica di legge presso G. B. Zatti; fu arcade e accademico quirino. Piacque ad un ricco inglese, il quale nel 1715 lo condusse a Londra ove fu maestro d'italiano nella famiglia del futuro Re Giorgio II. A Londra scrisse drammi per musica, curò edizioni di testi italiani e nel 1727 stampò le "Rime". Morì nel 1765 a Todi dopo il suo ritorno in Italia nel 1744. Book.

The pages are clean and tight. The upper cover is separated, and the lower hinge is cracking. The corners and ends of the spine are worn. Owner's name on title page, and a marginal note in a contemporary hand on p. 33.
