Sie werden auch mit dem aus dem Altäthiopischen abgeleiteten Wort Falasha (eingedeutscht Falaschen) bezeichnet, das ?Ausgewanderte? oder ?Exilierte? bedeutet und abwertend konnotiert ist. Nach den Operationen Moses (1984), Joshua (1985), Salomon (1991) und Taubenflügel (2011) leben sie größtenteils in Israel (etwa 120.000 im Jahr 2010).
