Signed Presentation Copy. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. 180 pages; 4 p. index; Preface by Rene Huyghe; from the dj: "This challenging book by an author who has lived and worked in the the art world for his entire life raises fundamental questions with which sensitive people in all fields should deal. Although chiefly concerned with standards and origins of taste in art, Mr. Seligman's keen understanding of how judgments are made--and of how judgments should be better made--points the way toward new and fresh evaluations and real rather than synthetic experiences. .Fifty-nine illustrations placed in the text throughout the book serve to high-light the arguments with which Mr. Seligman leads up to a rewarding discussion on objectivity, the direct approach toward art, and its potential effect upon the art world." Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Fair. I begin with the good news: First edition of this scarce title and the text is clean and unmarked, binding tight, and no indications of previous ownership. At least a Very Good book. However, I have little positive to say about the DJ which has been clipped, is missing a chunk at the bottom of the spine and has a few smaller tears elsewhere. But what an interesting story about the art market amply supported by numerous photographs.
