In the foreword, George Steele Seymour describes the Laura Blackburn contest, names the winners of the poetry contest (Harry Noyes Pratt, Mary Coles Carrington, and Agnes Kendrick Gray), and lists information specific to the pamphlet. "Laura Blackburn" is a pseudonym of Charles G. Blanden who awarded the winners with prize money. All of the poets are also Bookfellows.
