    FIRST EDITION (1908), folio, 395 x 275 mm, 15½ x 10¾ inches, cloth backed grey boards illustrated brown and white, green and cream illustrated endpapers, illustrated half-title, (34) pages Japan folded. Colour illustrated title page and 32 pages of delightful coloured illustrations, text above and below. Foxhound puppies get up to every sort of prank. Corners and board edges slightly rubbed, tiny chips to surface at top and bottom edges of boards, head and tail of spine just very slightly worn, minute nick in spine cloth. Endpapers slightly browned, half-title foxed and last page slightly foxed, occasional faint foxing to margins. A very good clean bright copy. The reprints are smaller (270 mm, 10¾" tall) with a mounted colour plate on the cover. J. A. Shepherd (1867-1946) was an animal painter known for humorous drawings of animals with human clothing and personalities.
