The first volume contains a memoir of Sheridan's life by James P. Browne containing extracts from the Life by Thomas Moore and The Rivals, a comedy, St Patrick's Day, a farce, The Duenna, a comic opera and A Trip to Scarborough, a comedy.The second volume contains The School for Scandal, a comedy, The Critic, a tragedy, Pizarro, a tragedy and The Camp, which is musical entertainment.With a frontispiece to volume one. In quarter calf with cloth covered boards. Externally, generally smart with rubbing to the spines, especially to the head and tail. Some rubbing to the extremities and marks to the boards. A smart collection of works by the Irish satirist, playwright, poet and politician, Richard Brinsley Sheridan. Including popular works such as 'The Duenna' and 'The Rivals'. Sheridan is widely recognised for being the long-term owner of the London Theatre Royal. With a bookplate for one 'D. D. Couche' to the front free endpaper and the previous owner's ink signature, dated 1880, to the front blanks. Uniformly bound in full calf with gilt detail. Externally, very smart with some rubbing to the extremities and a few light marks to the boards. Some fading to the spines. Small mark to the bottom of the front paste-down in volume one. Bookplates to the front free endpapers of both volumes. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and clean with just the odd spot, slightly heavier towards the front and rear of the books. Previous owner's ink inscription to the front blank of both volumes. Slight age-toning to the edges. Very Good Indeed. book.

Dudley Coutts Marjoribanks, 1820-1894, was a Scottish businessman and Liberal politician.
