Pietro was born in a small town near Bergamo called Albino where his parents retired during the Italian wars, and Pietro did his studies in Vicenza under the direction of Giovita Rapicio (1476-1553), men of letters who opened a school in Bergamo where he wrote a treatise in Latin for the education of young people and later taught in Vicenza and other Italian cities, author of several speeches, poems and epistles and his best work is entitled "De número Oratorio", five books in Venice, 1544. Years later, Pietro occupied municipal positions, also taking care of his literary works and his verses deserved the suffrage of Torquato Tasso. Giovanni Mario Crescimbeni (1663-1728), author of "History of vulgar poetry", Venice, 1730-31, 6 vols., Confuses it with another Pietro Spino, doctor of Brescia, died in Venice in 1538. In addition to the poems printed in the "Compilations of Licinio", Bergamo, 1587, in-8ş and that of Girolamo Ruscelli, Pietro left a book entitled "Life and deeds of the most excellent war captain Bartolomeo Colleoni",Venice, 1569, in-4ş and Bergamo, 1732, in-4ş, augmented with two Latin speeches delivered at the funeral of such a famous condottiero (The Abbe Pierantonio Serassi (1721-1791) has told the life of Spino in his work "Raccolta Calogerana", and the sculptor Jean Antoine Amadeo de Pavia made the mausoleum of Bartolomeo Colleoni in Bergamo). A seguito della morte del padre, ucciso nel proprio castello, a Trezzo, da Filippo Maria Visconti, duca di Milano, si arruolò al servizio di diversi condottieri. All'età di 32 anni faceva parte dell'armata della Repubblica Veneziana, sotto Francesco Maria Gonzaga, poi sotto Erasmo da Narni (noto come Gattamelata) ed in fine sotto Francesco A. Sforza. Nel 1441 venne firmata la pace tra Milanesi e Veneziani e nel 1443 il Colleoni passò dalla parte dei primi insieme a Sforza. In seguito tornò dai Veneziani e poi di nuovo dai Milanesi, fino a quando nel 1455, tornato definitivamente dai Veneziani, venne nominato capitano-generale della Repubblica a vita.
