This book is an account of the life and times of one of the most successful and celebrated military commanders of the 15th century, Bartolomeo Colleoni. Born into a noble but impoverished family in Bergamo Italy, Colleoni made his name as a condottiere leading mercenary armies in the Italian Wars. His prowess in battle and his skill in strategy and tactics made him one of the most sought-after captains in Italy, and he fought for a variety of patrons including the Visconti of Milan, the Republic of Venice, and the Sforza Duchy of Milan. Through his career, Colleoni amassed a fortune and became one of the wealthiest men in Italy. He was also a patron of the arts and architecture, and his legacy can still be seen in the many churches and palaces he commissioned, including the Colleoni Chapel in Bergamo which houses his tomb. Colleoni's life is a fascinating tale of ambition, military prowess, and political intrigue, and this book provides a detailed and insightful account of his career. The author draws on a variety of sources, including contemporary chronicles and letters, to give a vivid and accurate portrait of Colleoni and his times. This book will appeal to anyone interested in military history, Italian history, or the Renaissance period. It is a well-written and engaging account of the life of one of the most important figures in Italian history. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.
