Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. The Pipe Organ in the Parlor, by Lilla Stirling, illustrated by Charles Geer; Thomas Nelson & Sons, New York, 1960. Long personal inscription by the author to her Grand Niece in 1978. A book of juvenile literature, one of a number of such books that she wrote. The many illustrations by Geer are very charming. The first paragraph of the blurb reads as follows You ll be the laughingstock of the town, Grandmother said when Grandfather announced he was going to build a pipe organ in the parlor. But Jeanie knew that whatever Cameron men dared, they could do; and she was proud when Grandfather told her they would build the organ together. The penultimate sentence in the book reads High, high are their hopes, for the chieftain has said that whatever men dare they can do. This is reproduced in the author s inscription to her niece, but she added this applies to women as well today 100%. What a difference from 1960 to 1978! The author, whose bio is in one of the attached photos grew up in Nova Scotia and was living in Connecticut when she wrote this book. There is no setting for the story, but it certainly appears to be Nova Scotia, as there is a strong Scottish flavour to the story. This is obvious from the following statement on the dedication page Ye Highlands and Ye Lowlands, a Noble Race! MacLeod, MacLean, MacLennan, Lamont, MacKay, Fraser, MacRae, Stuart, Dinwoodie, Robb, Foote and Gillis Builders of New Scotland I salute you. This book, 95 pages, is in very-good condition in a very-good dust jacket. The book is extremely scarce. Inscribed by Author(s).
