Two book shop stickers (inside front cover and upper corner title page), place and date written by the upper edge of the title page with a line in Hungarian language above the publications details on the same page. Newspaper cuttings have been taped to the centre of the title page, by the spine of pages 1, 3, 5, 72, 73, and the otherwise blank page facing the inside rear cover (these are now detached) and 85, still attached. The tape has left stains. There are some notes in pencil (in English) on approximately 3 pages. Illustrated wrapper. The book is fragile with wear at the spine, taped repairs, and some loss. From the Foreword, 'Tarawa was the first in a series of amphibious oeprations which carried United States forces across the Central Pacific to the homeland of Japan. The operation was the first example of a sea-borne assault against a heavily defended coral attol. Seventy-six hours after the assault troops landed, in the face of heavy resistnace, the battle was over and an important base secured with the annihilation of its defending garrison.' Size: 4to.
