SB, 2005 reprint of 1947 original document housed at the National Archives, Kew, London. 750ppPublished Price £48 CROWCASS is an acronym for Central Registry of War Criminals and Security Suspects. This volume combines all four of the final CROWCASS publications which were in print at the end of 1947.CROWCASS was established to assist the United Nations War Crimes Commission and Allied governments in tracing ex-enemy nationals suspected of committing war crimes or atrocities in Europe. The organisation was originally set up by the Supreme Headquarters Allied Expeditionary Force (SHAEF) in the spring of 1945. Operated by British and American military personnel with the assistance of civilian administrative staff the object was to provide a pool of information on persons in Allied detention and those still wanted for interrogation or apprehension in connection with potential war crimes. National governments were invited to draw on this information and were also encouraged to contribute. To Allied military investigators the CROWCASS registers became a sort of Nazi Hunter's bible BUT they had to be treated with considerable caution as many of the individuals were merely being sought for interrogation or simply to act as witnesses. Added to this, of course, all the cited instances of murder, pillage, brutality, torture etc that were contained within the CROWCASS registers were only allegations until those responsible were required to answer charges in an Allied court. There are over 50,000 Germans and other nationals in this combined volume. Many of those named will have been arrested and charged in connection with the crimes they were accused of. Whilst others will have escaped apprehension by the Allied authorities and may still be at large.Within these pages are the alleged perpetrators of tens of thousands of war crimes. They range from civilians and low ranking members of the armed forces to Adolf Hitler himself (CROWCASS Case Registry No.1 -Wanted for murder by Poland, Czechoslovakia and Belgium). Other notable names includeHitler's No.2 Martin Bormann, genocide architects Adolf Eichmann and Alois Brunner (never captured and possibly still alive), SS doctor Josef Mengele, Gestapo chief Klaus Barbie and Malmedy/ Wormhoudt massacre perpetrator SS General Wilhelm Mohnke.

2003 N & M Press reprint of 1945 original Edition. SB. 394pp 52 full colour plates 16 b&w illustrations.Published Price £55 The German Police study made by SHAEF and other more clandestine agencies shows clearly why the German Police was so different to their British and American counterparts. German Police covers the history of the German Police and particularly Himmlerâ s involvement in initially the Gestapo and later with the secret organisations which were all included in the general term â Policeâ .This detailed study examines Himmlerâ s acolytes, the Higher SS Police Commanders, and the ever present SS involvement in internal security matters in the Third Reich. It also gives details of the regular police, as well as the more sinister Security Police (SiPo) and the Security Service (SD). Gestapo and Kripo are included. The volume is also important in that it contains nine uniform colour plates, sixteen black and white photographs and a very important colour section on official papers - identity documents for the regular police, the SS (including the SS pay book), the fire service and the Hitler Youth fire service, the SiPo, the SD, the Gestapo, the German standard ID card, Racial German ID cards and other important ID documents.

2023 N&M Press reprint (original pub 1944). 482pp with Uniform & Ranks & Insignia Plates in colour Dimensions 21.01 x 29.69 cm The Sturmabteilung (SA) "Storm Detachment", was the Nazi Party's original paramilitary wing. It played a significant role in Adolf Hitler's rise to power in the 1920s and 1930s. Its primary purposes were providing protection for Nazi rallies and assemblies; disrupting the meetings of opposing parties; fighting against the paramilitary units of the opposing parties, especially the Roter Frontkämpferbund of the Communist Party of Germany (KPD) and the Reichsbanner Schwarz-Rot-Gold of the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD); and intimidating Romani, trade unionists, and especially Jews. The SA ceased to exist in May 1945 when Nazi Germany collapsed. It was formally disbanded and outlawed on October 10, 1945.FROM THE FOREWORDFrom a politico military point of view the SA (The Brownshirts or Nazi Party Stormtroopers ) is an organisation which should not be underestimated either at the present time or in relation to an allied occupation of Germany. Its active wartime strength is in the region of 500 000 to 700 000 men and its regional organisations include some 17 000 permanent headquarters throughout the Reich Its total peacetime strength was about 3 000 000 (1934). In addition there are at least another million SA men now serving in the Wehrmacht who upon demobilisation may resume contact with their old organisation unless it is not only disbanded but completely wiped out. This organisation represents the most widely spread and densely knit of any of the para-military forces of the Nazi Party and its influence is surpassed only by the SS and the Police. It is significant that the SA is now co-operating closely with both these bodies as an auxiliary internal security and defence force. This development is largely a war time measure and is one of the principal reason for the revival of the SA (especially since the appointment of a new Chief of Staff SCHEPMAN in Aug 1943) after a long period of political quiescence that followed the purge of the SA in 1934.But the SA is not only a part-time para-military organisation. Apart from its responsibility as the principal agency for pre- and post- military training, it provides fully embodied units for frontier and auxiliary police duty equal to regular infantry formations. For comparatively large scale actions against guerillas in L of C areas, some SA units are also issued with light mountain artillery and mortars or are equipped as mounted troops. These aspects of the SA are discussed in the following sections of this handbook. The general conclusion to be drawn from the evidence is that the SA with its ramified structure and wide range of duties is not only a valuable defence and security organisation on the German home front today, but presents a substantial counter-intelligence problem as a potential source of disturbance and conspiracy during and after the initial stages of the occupation of Germany.

Map. Condition: Good. Map Format is approximately 25.5 inches by 19 inches. Folded in half and then several times so that there are 10 panes, not of uniform size. Map is on one side of the sheet only. Scale is 1:1,000,000. Left margin is approximately one half inch. Right margin is about one-eighth of an inch. Lower margin is approximately 3.5 inches and has substantial information on tows, canals, canal capacity, railways, and boundaries. The top margin is approximately 2 inches and has the scale and the word "Austria". The basic map, designated at SHAEF No. 36, was photolithographed by 13 M. R. S., R.E., in 1944. This version was prepared by P.H. P. Research (ink notation). A red line for Zones has been added in ink. Boundaries of the France, U.K., U.S.S. R., and the U.S.A. zones are in read. The boundaries of the city of Vienna is shown in red, with a blue outer circle. In the upper right corner is the following handwritten ink notation: "Map "A" annexed to the Agreement on Zones of Occupation in Austria of 9th July 1945". This is followed by several initial and the date of 9 vii 1945. This appears to be one of the maps prepared for the negotiations by the European Advisory Commission that met in London in 1945 and established the Zones of Occupation in Austria. The Allied occupation of Austria started on 27 April 1945 as a result of the Vienna Offensive and ended with the Austrian State Treaty on 27 July 1955. Subsequent to the Anschluss, Austria had generally been recognized as constituent part of Nazi Germany. In 1943 however, the Allies agreed in the Declaration of Moscow that Austria would instead be regarded as the first victim of Nazi aggression, and treated as a liberated and independent country after the war. In the immediate aftermath of World War II, Austria was divided into four occupation zones and jointly occupied by the United States, the Soviet Union, the United Kingdom, and France. Vienna was similarly subdivided but the central district was collectively administered by the Allied Control Council. On 9 July 1945 the Allies agreed on the borders of their occupation zones. Vorarlberg and North Tyrol were assigned to the French Zone; Salzburg and Upper Austria south of the Danube to the American Zone; East Tyrol, Carinthia, and Styria to the British Zone; and Burgenland, Lower Austria, and the Mühlviertel area of Upper Austria, north of the Danube, to the Soviet Zone. The French and American zones bordered those countries' zones in Germany, and the Soviet zone bordered future Warsaw Pact states. Vienna was divided among all four Allies. The historical center of Vienna was declared an international zone, in which occupation forces changed every month. Movement of occupation troops ("zone swap") continued until the end of July. For the purposes of occupation, Austria will be divided as follows into four zones, one of which will be allotted to each of the four Powers, and a special Vienna area which will be jointly occupied by armed forces of the four Powers : North-Eastern (Soviet) Zone (as shown on the annexed map "A". The province of Lower Austria with the exception of the City of Vienna, that part of the province of Upper Austria situated on the left bank of the Danube, and the province of Burgenland which existed prior to the Decree of 1st October, 1938, concerning boundary changes in Austria, will be occupied by armed forces of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. The province of Salzburg and that part of the province of Upper Austria situated on the right bank of the Danube will be occupied by armed forces of the United States. The provinces of Tirol and Vorarlberg will be occupied by armed forces of the French Republic. The province of Carinthia, including Ost Tirol, and the province of Styria, except the area of the Burgenland as it existed before the Decree of 1st October, 1938, will be occupied by armed forces of the United Kingdom. Presumed one of multiple original copies.
