Brown cloth with red letters on the frnt cover and black letters on the spine and with a vignette in black and red on the front cover of a helmeted Red Coat charging ahead holding a smoking musket with bayonet fixed Fore-edge untrimmed. Some wear to extremities with nothing rubbed through, top and bottom of spine just barely beginning to fray, cloth clean, red color bright, gift inscription in pencil on front free endpaper, else very good to near fine with no internal markings. No dust jacket. Frances Louise Morse Howland [pen name Kenyon West] was the author of several books, including ONWARD (1877), BROKEN BONDS (1889), and THE LAUREATES OF ENGLAND (1895). CLIVEDEN is a piece of historical fiction set in the era of the American Revolution during the Battle of Germantown. "Cliveden" refers to the summer home of Benjamin Chew on the Germantown Road. Reprinted in 1976, but this copy is the original edition.
