(SIGNED) Yankee from the West: The candid, turbulent life story of the Yankee-born U.S. Senator from Montana by Burton K. Wheeler Hardcover Cloth 436 pages. Condition Very Good Dust Jacket Very Good. Book Well kept and carefully stored in unread condition. Slight shelf wear. An unclipped dust jacket smooth and clean is discolored with age with slight shelf wear - a few tears, scrapes, wrinkles and chips. Not an ex-library, book club or remainder copy. Senator Burton K. Wheeler of Montana, with refreshing candor and characteristic courage inherited from his New England forebearers, traces his life from birth to retirement. Inscribed on front and back endpapers by Burton K. Wheeler. As a freshman senator, Wheeler played a crucial role in exposing the Harding administration's unwillingness to prosecute people involved in the Teapot Dome scandal. He ran for vice president in 1924 on the Progressive Party ticket headed by Wisconsin Senator Robert La Follette Sr. An ardent New Deal liberal until 1937, Wheeler broke with President Franklin D. Roosevelt on the issue of packing the Supreme Court. In foreign policy, from 1938 to 1941, he became a leader of the non-interventionist wing of the party, fighting against entry into World War II until the attack on Pearl Harbor. 436 pp.
