CONTENTS ARE LIKE NEW!!! However, there is a crack exposing hinges between both covers and main body, the end papers and the last blank page are loose & frayed. Spine is a little soft and grubby, cloth is bubbling in places, bumped & frayed either end, gilt mostly worn away, binding remains tight! Cover is marked and worn, some bumps & scratches, gilt worn away & dull, creasing to cloth on front, large vertical indent on back, edges scuffed & worn. Corners bumped & frayed, boards exposed on 2 of them. Bottom edge darkened, few scratches & marks on all edges. Very light age tanning & occasional foxing throughout. RARE ITEM, BEAUTIFUL INSIDE!!! Near Fine condition. Square and tight. This 1906 first edition is RARE, especially so in condition as nice as this, since most copies went to libraries. This copy has NO stamps, numbers, or other library indications but for a loose "The Library of Congress 1800" bookplate laid-in. At the back of the bookplate is a little glue residue that appears to match a small glue residue shadow on the book's front pastedown endpaper. Bound in the original green cloth. Gilt stamping is bright and shiny. Cover is lightly rubbed but still has much of its original new book gloss. PHOTOS UPON REQUEST. Corners are NOT bumped. Front inner hinge starting (but still holding). Pages are crisp, clean and unmarked. Introduction by William Coolidge Lane, Librarian, Harvard University Library.
