Soft cover. Condition: Very Good. First Thus. First edition thus. Paperback. 21.5 × 13.5cm, xix + 292pp. In his later years, William Morris became an active and respected lecturer and writer on social and cultural themes, the successor to Carlyle and Ruskin. He published two volumes of these writings in his lifetime, Hopes and Fears for Art in 1882, and Signs of Change in 1888. Since it was in 1883 that he committed himself to Socialism, these two volumes read together show clearly the development of his political-cultural thinking. All the lectures deal, in clear and vigorous English, with issues of work, ecology and society that are still of central concern today. The text is reproduced from May Morris' Collected Works of William Morris (1914/1915). Condition: This copy is in very good condition.

Condition: New. One of the group of prose romances which Morris wrote towards the end of his life and which Yeats tells us that he read slowly because he never wanted to come to the end. It is a blending of elements from earlier traditions and, as Norman Talbot argues, notable for its focus on a female hero. 01 Jul 1994.
