"The following pages contain a Calendar of the Jewish Cases recorded in the Bute Collection of MSS. formerly belonging to the Holy Office of the Inquisition in the Canary Islands, together with an Introduction analyzing the work of the Inquisition and explaining its relation to general Jewish history. The main interest of the documents for the Jewish Historical Society of England arises from the fresh light they shed on the early history of the present Anglo-Jewish community and on the circumstances which brought about the Resettlement of the Jews in this country during the Commonwealth." Covering the years 1499-1818, documenting the persecution of the Jews by the Spanish. With large fold-out map in rear. Translated from the Spanish and edited with an introduction by Lucien Wolf. Front wrapper and first 12 leaves and page 257 through rear wrapper detached from book block. Age wear, creasing, staining and sunning on wraps. Backstrip heavily chipped.
