Reprint of the 1859 edition published by Barrett & Wimbish, Montgomery, Alabama. [4], 168 pages. Hardcover: H 22.75cm x L 15.75cm. No dust jacket (likely as issued). Light tan cloth mildly soiled. Text block edges foxed. Toning/foxing to endpapers; past owner's personal bookplate on front pastedown; some foxing to interior leaves which are otherwise clean. Binding is firm. A very good copy. Includes the original Introduction by Johnson Jones Hooper on pages 3-4. With the addition of a new two page Introduction by Peter A. Brannon who had a fifty year career at the Alabama Department of Archives and History including serving as director from 1955 to 1967 as well as authoring a weekly history column in the Montgomery Advertiser newspaper for nineteen years. This second edition, a joint production of two bookstores in Tuscaloosa and Birmingham, was the first reprint of the quite scarce Thomas Woodward classic 1859 Alabama title. Laid-in at rear endpapers is a circa 1960 foxed and soiled Georgia Historical Commission brochure regarding the Chief Vann House. {AL-Shelf#2}.
