Illustrated with twenty-seven colour plates and forty-five black-and-white plates. Collated complete. A detailed study of butterflies in the Indian region, with specific reference to individual species, as well as collecting and preserving. Includes commentary on the lie of a butterfly including migration and defence against predators. Written by Mark Alexander Wynter-Blyth, an English teacher and amateur naturalist. In the original blue cloth binding. Externally, smart with light shelf wear and minor bumping to the extremities. Fading to the spine. A 3" dented closed tear to the top of the rear board. Original unclipped dust wrapper is also smart with shelf wear and chipping to the extremities. The odd small closed tear and minor loss to the head and tail of the spine. Sunning to the spine and the odd small mark to the boards. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean with light age toning to the endpapers. Good. book.

Condition: Good. pp523 Mountaineer George Band's copy of this comprehensive, well illustrated guide to the Butterflies of the Indian Region with his ownership inscription and 'Chittagong 1969' to the ffep. The book is in good condition in blue cloth with gilt titles and decoration, both boards are bumped along the top edge and there is a short tear to the cloth at the head of the spine. Internally very clean, the title page is torn along the gutter. In a good dust jacket, chipped to the edges, with an attractive cover illustration which is lightly stained. Extra postage charges may apply as this is a heavy volume. From the collection of English mountaineer George Band, the youngest member of the successful team which conquered Mount Everest in 1953. Band was President of the Mountaineering Club at Queen's College, Cambridge and his exceptional Alpine record caught the eye of John Hunt, who put him in charge of radio equipment on the Everest expedition. Band's finest achievement was the first ascent of Kangchenjunga in 1955. He pursued a professional career in oil exploration but continued to climb all over the world. He served as president of the Alpine Club and the British Mountaineering Council, and published several books on mountaineering. He was made an OBE in 2009.
