About this Item: Harper & Brothers, New York, New York, 1880. Original Wraps. Condition: Fair. First printing. Single issue. Small quarto, 10 1/4" tall, pages 321 to 480 + ads, printed beige wraps. A good clean sturdy issue overall, interior very good, but cover clipped away with loss of 2/3 of fron cover and 1/3 of reaer, with light exterior soiling, back strip chipped at top and bottom edges, internal binding solid, paper moderately yellowed, with a few signatures more darkened than others due to an obvious difference in paper quality, and a dampstain to the bottomcorner of the first 60 pages which does not affecr text or ilustrations. This is an original issue and includes all of the editorial material (articles, stories, poetry, etc.) as well as the advertisements and covers. Note: ''Harper's Magazine' began publication in 1850 and recreated the American magazine, serving as a promotional vehicle for Harper and Brothers books as well as the new 'literary' fiction and essay of the time, using sophisticated illustration and the best authors. Subject matters range from art, fiction, and poetry to history and science. As such it makes a terrific read as an anthology of its moment in time. Including ''Bartram and his Garden,' by Pyle, 'Washington as a Burgher,' by Carne, 'San Marino,' by Bigelow, 'Drop-Star--A legend of Lake Kayutah,' by Coxe, ''Grub Stakes and Millions,' by Hayes, 'Mrs. Keesler's Horse-car, by Hale, Mary Anerly' by Blackmore, and 'White Wings' by Black, 'etc. Seller Inventory # 32446
