Soft cover. Condition: Very Good. Colour map with information printed to both sides 70x55cm, folding down into illustrated title panels 9x24cm. Designed and printed by Woodhaven Press, New York. No scale given. Undated, approx 1956 (when the Information Center opened) to 1961 with a photo of the Shah meeting President Eisenhower. Diplomat and author Sir Abdol Hossein Hamzavi (1910-79) was at this time Iran's representative to the UN. This attractively produced publication was issued to raise awareness of Iran, and apparently to underline its claim to Bahrain. The map includes numerous captions for important historic and economic sites, along with settlements, provinces, roads, railroads (existing and under construction), rivers, oil pipelines and oil fields. The countries around Iran are shaded green without any information, except for Bahrain, in the same orange as Iran with a caption describing it as a group of islands between Al-Hasar and the peninsula of Qatar, giving the impression it is part of Iran. A table of historic dates beginning with Cyrus' coronation in BC 546, curiously ends at 1951 "Nationalisation of the oil industry", avoiding mention of the key events that came after it, which the US had a hand in. The verso features descriptions of Iran accompanied by b/w photos and a distance table. Very good, neatly folded with small holes at intersections.
