About this Item: A-No. 1 Publishing Co, Erie, PA, 1919. Wraps. Condition: Good. 6th Printing. much wear to tips, corners, and edges of the book, covers soiled, some dog-eared pages which are browned pulp. Number 10 in the tramplife series. Leon Ray Livingston (18721944) was a famous hobo and author, travelling under the name "A-No.1" and often referred to as "The Rambler." He perfected the hobo symbols system, which let other hobos know where there are generous people, free food, jobs, vicious dogs, and so forth. He was not a poor man; he simply preferred a life of travelling the country by train to sitting at home. In his memoir The Ways of the Hobo, Livingston admitted that he was uneducated, but began his self-education at the age of 35. Books and other items ship promptly with a tracking number and(generally over $15.00) jacket protectors if applicable. Clean recycled packing material will be used when possible. About this Item: A-No.1 Publishing Company, Erie, PA, 1918. Paperback. Sixth Edition. No.9 in A-No.1's fictionalized hoboe series. Collects five stories, chief among them being "Mother Delcassee of the Hoboes," about the female proprietor of a hobo flophouse in the French Quarter of New Orleans. A-No.1, moniker of real-life vag Leon Ray Livingston, was something of a celebrity in the first few decades of the twentieth century, and did much to fuel those decades' obsession with the image of the "lovable tramp." Well-preserved copies of any title in this series are uncommon. Octavo (19.25cm); pictorial wrappers; 128pp; illus. Tanning to text edges (as is typically seen with this series), light dustiness and marginal wear to extremities, with a faint damp mark to right edge of front wrapper; a well-preserved, Very Good+ copy. About this Item: The A-No. 1 Publishing Company, Erie, Pennsylvania, 1920. Condition: Very Good. First edition. Wrappers. 135pp., illustrated. Pages browned else a very good plus copy. Apparently Livingston's marriage had mellowed him somewhat as this, the penultimate title in the series (and one of the scarcest), while not losing his censorious tone, allows a little more humor to creep in, and that fact is reflected in the art on the front wrapper.
