About this Item: Coleccion Rio De Luz / Fondo De Cultura Economica, Mexico City, MEXICO, 1986. Pictorial Self Wrappers. Condition: Very Good. First Edition 1/3000. np, profusely illustrated in b&w. Text in Spanish. Designed by Peggy Espinosa. Published as part of Fondo De Cultura Economica's notable Pablo Ortiz Monasterio curated photography series "Coleccion Rio De Luz", this is a lovely monograph devoted to the haunting black and white images of the rural Mexican city of San Agustin Oapan taken by noted Iranian-born, Paris-based Magnum member Abbas (Attar). A handsome example of the photographer's uncommon second book (cited on page 20 of Horacio Fernandez' "The Latin American Photobook" and page 215 of Fred Ritchin and Carole Naggar's "Magnum Photobook: A Catalogue Raisonné") showing a flattened diagonal soft crease across the upper foredge corner of the rear cover and last several pages of the textblock. It has been priced accordingly. Photography Monograph. Seller Inventory # 017778

About this Item: Editions Clétrat, 1980. Soft cover. Condition: Near Fine. 1st Edition. Paris: Editions Clétrat, 1980. (9 5/8 x 8 7/8 in., 24.3 x 22.5 cm). np. (92pp.) First edition. Original photographically illustrated wrappers (minor wear to cover edges, faint rubbing, price erasure first blank page, minor spotting perceptible to text block, near fine overall, a tight, internally fine copy now in removable mylar). Contains 70 black and white reproductions of photographs made while working as a member of Gamma. A member of Magnum since 1981, he returned to Iran in 1997 after 17 years of voluntary exile. From Magnum Photos: "For two years, 1978-1980, Abbas covered the Iranian revolution and its aftermath. His book "Iran, la révolution confisquée" did not do well with the emerging mollarchy. His book on Islam was banned in Iran." Within are "some of his, now, historic photos of the dramatic events that lead to the return of the Ayatollah Khomeini after 15 years in exile and to the fall of the Shah's regime on February 11th 1979." A surprisingly uncommon title in very nice condition. The photographer's first book. Seller Inventory # 2010005
