The degree, moreover, to which that treaty has in ?uenced, and is now in?uencing, the course of hu man affairs and historical evolution in both hemi spheres is, I think, little appreciated. About this Item: Circa [1920s]. [1920s]., 1920. Condition: Good. - A 3-inch high by 5-inch wide lined index card is signed in black ink "C F Adams". The edges of the card are darkened. Good. Charles Francis Adams, III [1866-1954] was a member of the prominent Adams family, the great-grandson of President John Quincy Adams and the great-great grandson of the second U.S. President John Adams. After graduating from Harvard Law School and being admitted to the Bar in 1893, Adams held the office of Mayor of Quincy, Massachusetts from 1896-1897. In 1917 he was elected as a member of the Massachusetts Constitutional Convention. From 1929 until his retirement in 1933 Adams served as U.S. Secretary of the Navy under President Herbert Hoover. While in office he vigorously promoted public understanding of the Navy's indispensable role in international affairs and worked strenuously to maintain naval strength and efficiency during a period of severe economic depression. Adams was a well-known yachtsman and was posthumously inducted into the America's Cup Hall of Fame in 1993. Seller Inventory # 36322

He requests him to have 'a warrant issued, in my favour, for a Buck from The New Forest, as soon after this letter reaches you, as may be convenient - and that you will give the instructions for its disposal'. He gives three numbered instructions regarding the warrant's packing and dispatch, adding 'going by the Luggage train is essential, in order that the expence may not be excessive'. In a postscript he asks that the buck be 'killed & dispatched ' when the weather is 'suitable'. Kennedy has attached his calling card to the recto of the second leaf with gummed paper. Signed by 'T. F. Kennedy', it carries his name and address printed on one side, and on the other his office ('The | CHIEF COMMISSIONER | of Her Majesty's Woods, &c., | Whitehall Place, | London.'). This masterful lithograph shows a looser hand modeling the thatched barns, juxtaposed by the soft trees and landscape. Francis Adams Comstock (1897-1981), was a longtime professor of architecture at Yale University, director of the Newport, Rhode Island Preservation Foundation, and the author of two important monographs on the artists Thomas Nason and F. L. Griggs. Comstock was also a well-known artist in his own right, his work reflecting both his architectural background and his fascination with the Cotswolds in England. Francis Adams Comstock (1897-1981), was a longtime professor of architecture at Yale University, director of the Newport, Rhode Island Preservation Foundation, and the author of two important monographs on the artists Thomas Nason and F. L. Griggs. Comstock was also a well-known artist in his own right, his work reflecting both his architectural background and his fascination with the Cotswolds in England.
