Book
Hardcover. Condition: Good. No Jacket. Baby blue cloth with front cover illustration of a stork, baby in a satchel, candle in dark blue. Gilt front cover lettering. Unpaginated (Some 94 pages). 4to. Illustrated throughout in color by ALBERTINE RANDALL WHEELAN. Filled-in baby book for a boy born on November 25, 1927 in Mason City, Iowa. The book follows through with comments and notes until 1934. This Iowa book is neatly filled in and has the Birth Certificate; Baby's First Valentine (Two of these); lists of baby's presents; baby's first outing; first short clothes; first tooth; first words; lock of hair; first Christmas; etc. An interesting read and bit of 20th century Americana as it details everything that happened to this child during the first seven years (Whooping cough, scarlet fever, etc). A very nice baby book in clean condition. Bit of rear cover soil; hinge separation after the Title Page; shaken. GOOD+ Language: eng Language: eng 0.0 Language: eng Language: eng Language: eng.

Book First Edition
Hardcover. Condition: Good. No Jacket. 1st Edition. Very pale blue paper covered boards. Front cover darker blue illustration of a stork holding a gilt scroll; illustrator's name in blue lettering at the bottom. No page numbers (Some 16 pages). Book size about 5 1/2 by 7 1/4 inches. Illustrated on every page in pink, blue and black BY WHEELAN. An eleven line verse by LEWIS CARROLL at the front beginning 'Say, what is the spell, when her fledgings are cheeping,'. Also, a three paragraph verse by EUGENE FIELD beginning: 'Last night the stork came stalking,'. A filled-in baby book for Geraldine Barnes date of birth 12-23-1916 (Oklahoma). Book includes three locks of the baby's hair and seven photographs. The photos range in age from the first at two years to a photo of her at ten years with her cousin and second cousin astride a horse in the yard. An absolutely delightful baby book and presumably quite scarce (I have not had one to sell in the 35 years I have been selling books). Top of spine chipped for one inch; bottom of spine with a small tear; couple of hinge cracks in the book; light soil. Since the book covers some ten years of this young girl's life it did see some use. I know I prefer these more intimate used copies to the sterile unused baby book. 15 songs for children each with a small colour illustration at its head, 33pp, quarto, pictorial paper covered boards soiled and marked, cloth spine little flecked, corners worn, 1.5cm gouge in lower cover which has caused a little damage in last 8 leaves. The charming illustrations reflect the period in which they were executed cute young "Chinese" and Chinese "characters" or at least the artists impression of them! The words of the songs are similarly reflective of western attitudes of the time. A charming period piece.
