Condition: Near fine. Rare first edition of this children's guide to life in New Zealand, beautifully illustrated by Charles Robinson. This amiable educational book describes its subject as not unlike Great Britain, "only rather better." While imperial and colonial unpleasantness is delicately smoothed over in typical late Edwardian fashion, the several chapters on Maori people and culture are complimentary and respectful by period standards, and handsomely illustrated by Robinson. Morris (née Marsh) was a children's author and later a reader for her publishing house; she was also the wife of designer Talwyn Morris and a friend of Margaret Macdonald and Charles Rennie Mackintosh. A rare and attractive title from the mature middle period of Robinson's career. 10.25'' x 8''. Original grey cloth with tan cloth spine. Pictorial paste-on to front board. Illustrated by Robinson with four full-page and one double-page color illustrations, four black and white plates, and numerous smaller black and white illustrations. Some rubbing to boards.
