About this Item: New York City, NY: W. W. Norton & Company, 2005. Hardcover. Condition: As New. Dust Jacket Condition: As New. 1st Edition. 1st Printing. Signed. 160 pages. Published in 2005. Exhibition Catalog. Retrospective collection of vintage photographs. The First Hardcover Edition. Precedes and should not be confused with all other subsequent editions. Published in a tiny print run as a hardcover original only. The First Edition is now scarce. An austerely elegant production by Laura Lindgren: Small-size volume format. Blue cloth boards with gilt titles embossed on cover and spine, and photographic reproduction pasted on the recessed center, as issued. Photographs by Andre Kertesz, which are reproduced at actual size. Edited by Paul Berlanga. Introduction by Bruce Silverstein. Essay by Robert Gurbo. Printed on pristine-white, thick coated stock paper in Hungary to the highest standards. In glassine DJ, as issued. Published on the occasion of the exhibition of the same name held at the Bruce Silverstein Gallery New York from October 1 through November 30, 2005. Presents "Andre Kertesz: The Early Years". The earliest photographs by Andre Kertesz. The Hungarian Master was a major influence on virtually all of the most important photographers of the 20th century (notably, Henri Cartier-Bresson), and is regarded by many as perhaps the greatest of them all. "His combination of Modernist vision and poetic wit defined a vocabulary that generations of photographers have continued to use. Kertesz's iconic images have seeped into contemporary culture, and yet he maintained that the real roots of his work were in Hungary. The first title completely dedicated to his early Hungarian prints, this book offers a unique window on the origins of genius. Selected from more than one thousand contact prints in the artist's estate, they are meticulously reproduced to actual size. A rare opportunity to witness the beginnings of a great artist" (Publisher's blurb). Almost all of the prints are just slightly bigger than postage stamps, harking back to a time when "scale" was measured not in terms of floor-to-ceiling size so prevalent today, but in terms of the artist's monumental vision. A gem of a book. An absolute "must-have" title for Andre Kertesz collectors. This copy is very boldly and beautifully signed in black ink-pen on the Acknowledgments Page by Paul Berlanga. It is signed directly on the page itself, not on a tipped-in page. The Editor of the book, Berlanga is the Chicago-based painter, photography expert, and former Director of Stephen Daiter Gallery Chicago, which represents the Kertesz Estate. This title is now collectible. As far as we know, this is the only such signed copy (by the editor) of the First Hardcover Edition/First Printing available online and is in especially fine condition: Clean, crisp, and bright, a pristine beauty. A scarce signed copy thus. 90 duotone plates. Andre Kertesz's "Day of Paris" was selected as one of the greatest photography books in "The Photobook". One of the greatest photographers of the 20th century. A fine copy. (SEE ALSO OTHER ANDRE KERTESZ TITLES IN OUR CATALOG) ISBN 0393061604. Signed by Author. Seller Inventory # 20262

About this Item: Little brown and Comp.; Boston, 1982. Condition: Gut. (1.Aufl.).. XI; 194 S.; illustriert (zahlreiche Fotografien). 4°. Gutes Ex. - Englisch. // Auf Vorsatz bzw. montiertem Blatt: Widmung und SIGNIERT von Jonathan Lasker. (Jonathan Lasker (* 1948 in Jersey City, New Jersey) ist ein US-amerikanischer Künstler. . Jonathan Lasker studierte 19751977 an der School of Visual Arts, New York und wechselte 1977 an das California Institute of the Arts, Valencia, CA. . Seller Inventory # 1059268

About this Item: New York City, NY: W. W. Norton & Company, 2007. Hardcover. Condition: As New. Dust Jacket Condition: As New. 1st Edition. 1st Printing. Signed. 128 pages. Published in 2007. Retrospective collection of photographs. One of the most beautiful photography books of our time. The first and only edition. Published in a small and limited print run as a hardcover original only. The First Edition is now scarce. A brilliant production by Laura Lindgren: Small-size volume format. Red cloth boards with metallic-silver titles embossed on spine, as issued. Photographs by Andre Kertesz. Essay by Robert Gurbo, the guardian/executor of the Andre Kertesz estate, and the single most knowledgeable living expert on the photographer. Printed on glossy stock paper by EBS in Verona, Italy to the highest standards. In pictorial DJ with titles on the cover and spine, as issued. Published on the occasion of the landmark travelling exhibition held in various venues in Toronto, Chicago, and New York in 2007. Presents "Andre Kertesz: The Polaroids". His ingenious and inspired Polaroid work, which he undertook towards the end of his long, productive, and great career. At the age of 84, the photographer began to work with a Polaroid camera, producing his first and only body of work in color. The images of figures molded in glass, wood, and ceramic hark back to a more private and introspective world, magical in its intensity, musical in its cadence. Many of them were first published in the great book, "From My Window" (1981), long out-of-print and rare. This posthumous volume presents the work in its entirety, supplemented with a luminous essay by Robert Gurbo. "After the death of his wife, Andre Kertesz consoled himself by taking up a new camera, the Polaroid SX-70. As with earlier equipment, he mastered the camera and produced a provocative body of work that both honored his wife and lifted him out of his depression. We see a fertile mind at work, combining personal objects into striking still lifes set against cityscape backgrounds, reflected and transformed in glass surfaces. A testament to the genius of the photographer's eye as manifested in the simple Polaroid" (Robert Gurbo). So many photography books are now being published every year that "smaller" books (in actual size, not in vision) are easily overlooked. This gem is one of them. An absolute "must-have" title for Andre Kertesz collectors. This copy is very prominently, neatly, and beautifully signed in black ink-pen on the title page by Robert Gurbo. It is signed directly on the page itself, not on a tipped-in page. This title is now collectible. As far as we know, this is the only such signed copy of the First Hardcover Edition/First Printing available online and is in especially fine condition: Clean, crisp, and bright, a pristine beauty. Please note: Gurbo did not do a public signing. This signed copy was obtained during the exhibition's Chicago opening. A rare signed copy thus. 80 plates. Andre Kertesz's "Day of Paris" was selected as one of the greatest photography books in "The Photobook". One of the greatest photographers of the 20th century. A fine copy. A PHOTOGRAPHY MONOGRAPH. SIGNED by ANDRE KERTESZ on the title page. Published by Prentice Hall Canada / A Key Porter Book, Ontario, Canada, 1982. First Edition, so stated. This is the TRUE FIRST EDITION, published in Canada to "celebrate the opening of an exhibition of the CANADIAN CENTRE OF PHOTOGRAPHY documenting seventy years of creative work by the master of photojournalism, Andre Kertesz." (Quoted from the statement on the copyright page.) Hardcover book, no dustjacket, embossed silver printing on the front cover and spine, 10x11.5 inches (25x29 cm), 259 pages. Illustrated throughout with b&w photographs by Andre Kertesz. VERY GOOD condition, no dj as noted above, the covers' corner tips have some worn and there is slight wear to the spine ends, otherwise tight, bright, clean and unmarked. A solid, very nice copy. Online I was able to find some photos of Kertesz at the Canadian Centre of Photography in 1982. From a Getty Images website I found the following caption beneath a photo (capitalizations are mine for emphasis): "ANDRE KERTESZ stands in front of a couple of his works on display at the CANADIAN CENTRE OF PHOTOGRAPHY on Markham St. The 88 year old PHOTOGRAPHER WAS THERE AT THE WEEKEND TO AUTOGRAPH THE BOOK, A Lifetime of Perception, a hard cover publication containing 150 photographs from his retrospective; a record of human experience from youth to old age." Sadly, Kertesz died only three years after his Canadian retrospective. About this Item: Chicago, IL: Stephen Daiter Gallery, 2005. Hardcover. Condition: As New. Dust Jacket Condition: As New. 1st Edition. 1st Printing. Signed. 128 pages. Published in 2005. Memorial Exhibition Monograph. One of the best exhibition monographs ever published on Andre Kertesz. Deluxe Slipcased Edition of 100 numbered copies. Should not be confused with and is superior in terms of production values to the Limited Edition of 900 copies. There is no ISBN. The Deluxe Edition is now rare. A brilliant production by The Stephen Daiter Gallery and David W. Williams: Oversize-volume format. Beige linen cloth boards with facsimile of Andre Kertesz's signature embossed on cover and black titles embossed on spine, as issued. Photographs by Andre Kertesz. Introduction by Stephen Daiter. Essay-Contributions by various scholars, colleagues, artists, curators, photographers, friends, and collectors. Matching beige linen cloth slipcase with full-size photographic reproduction and black titles embossed on one side. Printed on pristine-white, Mohawk Superfine stock paper by Meridian Printing Greenwich in the United States to the highest standards. The reproduction quality is exemplary in every respect. In pictorial DJ with white titles on the cover and spine, as issued. Published on the occasion of the exhibition of the same name held at the Stephen Daiter Gallery Chicago from March 11 through May 28, 2005. Presents, in its Deluxe Edition, "Andre Kertesz: Observations, Thoughts, Reflections". One of the most moving and singular tributes to the art of Andre Kertesz. Twenty-seven contributors were invited to choose their favorite Kertesz photograph, and then to write about it. These are not self-indulgent, lazy pieces. As Daiter notes, the vintage images assembled showcase Kertesz's visual sensibility and genius. "Some of the photographs are Classically familiar while others are refeshingly obscure. Each of the contributors shared his or her time and talents enthusiastically. The juxtaposition of image with text resulted in a sparkling mixture of memory, emotion, and scholarship" (Publisher's blurb). Some of the contributors include Katherine Bang, Paul Berlanga, Keith Davis, Willem Diepraam, John Gossage, Robert Gurbo, Martin Parr, Sylvia Plachy, Gary Schneider, David Travis, and seventeen other "testimonees" to Andre Kertesz's greatness. To honor Kertesz with observations, thoughts, and reflections is to honor him at the deepest level: He was a great artist because he was a conscious dreamer. An absolute "must-have" title for Andre Kertesz collectors. This copy of the Deluxe Slipcased Edition of 100 numbered copies is very prominently and beautifully signed in black ink-pen on his Contribution by Paul Berlanga. It is signed directly on the page itself, not on a tipped-in page. This title is now collectible. As far as we know, this is the only copy of the Deluxe Edition available online and has no flaws, a pristine beauty. A rare copy thus. 27 plates. Andre Kertesz's "Day of Paris" was selected as one of the greatest photography books in "The Photobook". One of the greatest photographers of the 20th century. A flawless collectible copy. (SEE ALSO OTHER ANDRE KERTESZ TITLES IN OUR CATALOG). Signed by Author. Seller Inventory # 21690
