About this Item: New York: Prentice-Hall, Inc., (1947). First edition. Very good plus: light wear, mild abrasion to shelf edges, spine ends slightly crimped, textblock faintly age-toned; dust jacket shows a split at spine fold that jags across the front panel; also shallow chipping at the corners and spine ends. Louis Auchincloss's first novel, released under the Lee pseudonym. "Since Henry James and Edith Wharton I know of no novelist who has been able to hand the highest stratum of American society with the subtlety and detachment of Andrew Lee."--Harry Bull. About this Item: New York: Prentice-Hall, 1947, 1947. First Edition. The first book by this ironic chronicler of New York's patrician class, a novel about charming and carefree young man removed from his job at an art gallery to serve as a desk lieutenant in the Canal Zone in the wake of Pearl Harbor -- strange circumstances indeed. Auchincloss himself served in the Navy during WW2, and drew upon his experiences for the novel. Although he published the book anonymously, Auchincloss allowed it to be reprinted under his own name in 1964. Very good in a lightly worn dustwrapper with a few chips and tears.
